The struggle to streamline operations and enhance efficiency is ever-present in property management. Property managers face intricate challenges—juggling staff, coordinating with vendors, and ensuring tenant satisfaction.
Chase Minnifield, co-founder and CEO of EZOS, decided to build a revolutionary software solution designed to simplify the complex dance of managing people within properties. The genesis of his company arose from real-world hurdles experienced by Minnifield himself as he dealt with the operational intricacies of property management. Determined to overcome these challenges, Minnifield wanted to create a solution that not only simplifies the lives of property managers but also transforms the entire landscape of property operations.
In this Q&A, Chase shares his insights into the genesis of EZOS and its mission to redefine property management.
How did you become interested in property management?
CM: I don't think I ever was really interested in property management until I started working for properties. I learned that this is a large business and a large opportunity. I was creating my first company while doing work for properties and universities in Lexington, Kentucky, and that's how I got into this realm of selling software to property managers.
What inspired you to co-found a company?
CM: I'm really advantageous when I see real-world difficulties in operations. That's where I had seen the initial idea for EZOS—operationally working with vendors for property managers and seeing firsthand how difficult that process was. I was a person that was directly affected by this issue. It was making my life bad. I am not a person who just says, “This is just how it is”—it's not my personality. So I've decided to fix it for my own benefit as well.
Property management in the future is going to work similarly to an e-commerce platform. You will be able to operate and run an asset just like you are purchasing products and services on Amazon. That's what we're looking to lead the charge of
Tell us about your team; Who's on it, and how did you meet?
CM: We have a team of 11 and growing. My founding team is three: Lincoln Ogata and Hayden Bush. Hayden is a technical founder, and Lincoln is an industry expert from the property management side of things. I'm a founder who started and scaled multiple companies. I lead the growth, Lincoln leads the retention, and Hayden leads the product.
Where do you see property management headed in the future?
CM: Property management in the future is going to work similarly to an e-commerce platform. You will be able to operate and run an asset just like you are purchasing products and services on Amazon. That's what we're looking to lead the charge of—the financial piece of getting services to the building and putting items or appliances into the actual spaces as well.
So what does success look like to you at EZOS in the short term and the long term?
CM: In the short term, success looks like building and growing our team, as well as getting people to buy in from an investor standpoint, from a board standpoint, and a team standpoint as we continue to scale our clients. In the long term, continuing to get new clients is great as well. We also want to continually see there being fewer people needed on the site level to run a property, and we want to be the catalyst behind that for property management and ownership groups.
